Just Too Hot

Sorry for the lack of updates lately. It’s been just too hot to disc golf. Most days have been over 100°F. I went a few days ago but we decided not to finish the whole course due to heat and lack of anything to drink.

I guess this is a decent disc golf tip - or at least a reminder: During the summer, it is a good idea to bring water with you in your disc golf bag. Even if you don’t drink it right away, you may forget to pack some water on another occasion.

And a note to self - stick an old rag in my disc golf bag for cleaning my discs if they fly into the creek. It’s not fun disc golfing with a muddy disc.

Putting Tips for Disc Golf

I learned a great tip for putting in disc golf. This technique works in both short and long range putting, you just need adjust your arc based on the distance. This tip comes from the guys over at Motodom.

Supposedly this works better with flat rimmed putters but I only have a curved rim putter. Hold the disc in front of you with both hands at eye height. If you’re right handed, place the fingers of your right hand across the side of the disc closest to you, pointed up. And your left hand’s fingers along the left side of the disc. To put, push and spin the disc counter-clockwise with your right hand and pull back slightly with your left hand.

BiMoto putting technique

For left handed disc golfers, use opposite finger placement and spin clockwise.

If you’re putting from a short distance, a few strides from the basket, aim straight for the middle of the basket. If you’re putting long distance, more than a few strides from the basket, aim at an arc and try to place the disc at the top of the basket where the chains hang from the frame.

Farewell Disc Golf Partner!

I know this isn’t a disc golf tip, but I feel I must blog about it. My buddy Bryce, the guy I usually disc golf with, just left for Utah - for good. He said he will be back to visit later this year but in terms of disc golfing regularly, that’s a long time! Anyone in Placer County, California looking for a disc golf partner?

My Favorite Disc Golf Disc

Sorry for the lack of blogging the last few days, I’ve been caught up with some work stuff and haven’t had time to hit the local disc golf course.

One thing I just had to tell you guys about is the disc I use and love! I have been disc golfing almost a year now so I feel pretty comfortable with my throwing technique. I had been using an Innova Archangel for driving - then I switched to the Innova Champion Beast. This disc is simply amazing! With the same throw, I can throw this thing dozens of feet further than my Archangel and it stays flat almost the entire drive. I’ve been fairly good at aiming my drive so this disc fit my throw perfectly!

If you have been disc golfing for a while and you don’t have a Champion Beast, I suggest you get one and give it a test drive - I’m sure you’ll be impressed.

Quick Tip For Putting

Before I head out to my local disc golf course, I wanted to share one of the first tips I learned that helped me a great deal.

When putting, use your index finger of your throwing hand to point at your target (the basket) as you release the disc. Toss your putter higher than your target (I usually aim for the top of the basket) so it gracefully falls into the middle of the basket. I usually put quite a bit of body movement into a putt as well, leaning forward with the throw. Hear that wonderful *chink* sound as you land your putt!
